Health Maintenance

Bathing

Your cat should get a bath once a week. Since there is a lack of hair the cats oils will get on fabrics more easily. A mild no-dye shampoo can be used to wash the cat by lightly rubbing it on and rinsing. As with most cats Sphynxes do not like water but their baths are a necessity.

Ears

It is recommended to purchase a solvent from a pet store to use to clean out the ears if your cat every few weeks. To do this drop a few drops in the ear and close the ear by grabbing the pointy part and covering the hole. While the ear is close massage around the ear to move the liquid throughout. Now it is time to scoop the dirt out of the ear with a cotton swab, but make sure you do not go in too far.

Eye maintenance

It is necessary to wipe out of the corner of the cats eyes with a damp cloth because they lack eyelashes that normally stop dirt from entering. Make sure a baby wipe is not used for this.

Nails maintenance

Cat nails must be cleaned too since there is no hair on their feet. To do this push on their feet until their claws stick out then wipe them off with a damp cloth or baby wipe. This also presents a good opportunity to trim the cat’s nails, but make sure not to cut down to far or this will cause bleeding.

Litter box maintenance

Any type of litter can be used in their litter box, it is important to keep the box cleaned daily and to disinfect it with bleach.
Even with as smart as a Sphynx is you will still have to show it where the litter box is located when bringing it in to a new house.

Food Maintenance

High quality food must be purchased for a Sphynx, cans or dry food is fine. It is also very important to change their water at least once a day.
